PART L & SBEM CALCULATIONS

SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) is the approved calculation
method used to provide analysis of a commercial building's energy
consumption and CO2 emissions rate.  SBEM calculations are required to
ensure compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations.

Using sophisticated modelling software, we are able to undertake SBEM
calculations for new buildings, as well as conversions and extensions of
commercial properties.  As approved Level 4 assessors, our documentation can be submitted directly to Building Control to ensure full building
regulation approval.

It is advisable to contact us at an early stage so that initial checks
and calculations can be carried out prior to formal submission of
documentation to the local authority.

Are you ready for Part L 2010?

As part of the ongoing response to the European legislation to improve energy efficiency in buildings (European Energy Performance in Buildings Directive), the UK government is revising the Building Regulations.

October 2010 saw the introduction of the revision to Part L of the Building Regulations covering the Conservation of Fuel and Power.

Some of the key changes: -

25% improvement on 2006 Energy Performance standards – achieved through improved U-values and increased HVAC plant efficiency. 

Design stage target emission rate (TER) – compliance must now be submitted prior to site work commencement.  This is now a requirement for non-domestic buildings, similar to the Predicted Energy Assessments (PEAs) used for domestic properties.

New limiting U-values – minimum standards have been improved.

Shell and core buildings – there will be a need to demonstrate compliance based upon future fit-out.
