BREEAM & Thermal Modelling

What is BREEAM?

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning, infrastructure, and buildings. It sets the global benchmark for best practice in sustainable design, construction, and operation.

Using a rigorous scoring system, buildings are allocated credits across various categories, which are then totaled to provide a final rating ranging from Pass to Outstanding.

To successfully hit your target rating, it is critical to engage specialists early. At Up Energy, our experienced assessors use advanced dynamic simulation software to secure key credits within the Energy (Ene) and Health and Wellbeing (Hea) categories.

BREEAM Hea 04: Thermal Comfort & Modelling

Achieving indoor thermal comfort is essential for building occupant productivity, health, and well-being. Under the BREEAM framework, this requires detailed, software-driven analysis.

Our team specialises in the building physics and Dynamic Thermal Modelling required to secure the maximum available credits under Hea 04(formerly Hea 03 in older BREEAM versions).

  • Thermal Comfort Analysis: We model your building’s internal environment using local weather data to ensure it meets PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied) indices in compliance with BS EN ISO 7730.

  • Future Climate Adaptation: We design and simulate projections to protect your building against future climate change overheating risks, future-proofing your asset.

Other Key BREEAM Credits We Support

Beyond thermal comfort, Up Energy provides the technical calculations and reporting required to unlock vital credits across the assessment lifecycle:

⚡ BREEAM Ene 01:
Reduction of Energy Use and Carbon Emissions

This is often one of the most heavily weighted sections of a BREEAM assessment. We look deeply into your SBEM calculations to significantly improve upon the building's Target Emission Rate (TER). By optimising the fabric, HVAC, and low-carbon technologies at the design stage, we help you secure multiple credits in the Energy category.

☀️ BREEAM Hea 01:
Visual Comfort
(Daylighting Calculations)

A well-lit building drastically improves user experience and reduces reliance on artificial lighting. We complete the complex daylighting and artificial lighting calculations required to ensure your building design achieves the necessary daylight factors and uniformity criteria for Hea 01 credits.

Why Partner with Up Energy for BREEAM Support?

  • Early-Stage Integration: We understand that the easiest, most cost-effective time to influence a BREEAM score is during the concept and detailed design phases. We collaborate seamlessly with your design team from day one.

  • Advanced Dynamic Simulation: We use industry-standard software to deliver hyper-accurate thermal and visual models.

  • Clear Compliance Pathways: We don't just give you data; we give you actionable design solutions to bridge the gap if a building is falling short of its credit requirements.
